Sports betting is legal in Washington, one of 36 states where it is, as of May 2026. Casino gambling is limited to tribal casinos, and online casino gambling is illegal. Washington has a state lottery, and card room gambling and horse racing are legal.

Washington has 29 tribal casinos operating under compacts with the state, making it one of the more robust tribal casino markets. Major properties include Muckleshoot Casino Resort near Auburn, Tulalip Resort Casino north of Seattle, and Snoqualmie Casino east of the city. Card rooms are legal in Washington under a separate framework that allows commercial establishments to offer poker and other player-banked card games.

Sports betting is legal but tied to tribal systems. The state authorized sports betting in 2020 and it launched through tribal casinos and tribal apps. Mobile betting is permitted through tribal apps, but the requirement that betting be tied to tribal systems means commercial operators like DraftKings and FanDuel do not hold Washington licenses. The lottery has operated since 1982. Horse racing at Emerald Downs in Auburn continues to operate live meets.

For residents in the Seattle metro area, tribal casino access is strong — multiple large facilities are within 45 minutes. Sports betting through tribal apps is technically mobile but the experience differs from states with fully commercial mobile markets. If you want DraftKings or FanDuel, Washington does not offer them. Online casino gambling is not legal. The tribal-centered model reflects the political power of Washington's tribal nations and the compacts they hold, which maintain tribal exclusivity over most gaming.
