What We Do
Most people pick a state for a job, a family member, or a childhood. Almost nobody picks on the numbers, because pulling income, property, estate and retirement taxes, gun laws, crime, schools and living costs for 50 states took weeks and still left holes. We spent twenty years looking for this page before building it.
We built the tool we wished existed: every meaningful dimension of state-level life in one place, updated continuously from primary government sources, presented without editorial spin.

All data is sourced from free public datasets — Census Bureau, CDC, federal agencies, and open research organizations. Nothing is paywalled. Nothing is estimated. Every value traces to a primary source.

Articles are drafted by our editorial software from that data and published on a daily schedule; the numbers in them trace to the same sources as the state and county pages.
