Sports betting is legal in Kentucky, one of 36 states where it is, as of May 2026. There are no casinos, and online casino gambling is illegal. Kentucky has a state lottery, and horse racing is legal.

Kentucky has no commercial or tribal casinos, which makes it unusual among states that have legalized sports betting. The state authorized mobile sports betting in 2023 and launched in September of that year, just in time for the NFL season. The major apps — DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM — all operate in the state. Live horse racing is accessible and culturally central. But there is no casino with table games or traditional slot machines. Online casino gambling is not legal. Kentucky offers a narrow but real gambling footprint built around its historic racing identity.
