Mississippi has a well-established commercial casino industry spread across two main corridors: the Gulf Coast anchored by Biloxi, and the Tunica area in the northwest corner of the state. Major operators including Beau Rivage (a MGM property), Harrah's Gulf Coast, and IP Casino Resort Spa operate along the Gulf. The Tunica market has contracted significantly from its peak but still has active properties. Both markets operate under licensing structures in place since 1990.
Mississippi is one of the more anomalous states in the gambling landscape: it has a mature commercial casino industry but has not legalized sports betting. The state lottery launched in 2019, which was itself a long-delayed move. Legislation for sports betting has been introduced but has not passed, leaving Mississippi behind every neighboring state except Alabama.
For residents near the Gulf Coast or Tunica areas, physical casino access is real. The Biloxi casino corridor is a genuine regional destination with quality properties. But there is no legal sports betting app, no online casino gambling. If you want to bet on the Saints from your phone, Mississippi currently offers no legal option for that.
Gulf Coast and Tunica casino corridor well-established. No sports betting — one of few commercial casino states without it.
