Texas has one specific claim that stands alone: Lake Fork. The 27,000-acre reservoir east of Dallas has produced more bass over 13 pounds than any lake on earth. The Texas state record — 18.18 pounds — came from Lake Fork. The lake is managed under special trophy bass regulations that limit harvest and protect large fish. It is the best big-bass lake in the world by documented fish count.
Beyond Fork, the Laguna Madre on the southern coast is a shallow hypersaline bay that is among the world's premier redfish fly fishing destinations. The Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake is the southernmost trout fishery in the continental United States near New Braunfels.
Resident licenses cost $30. Texas fishing infrastructure is significant — bait shops, launch ramps, guide services, and tournament culture are well developed across the state. Lake Fork guides book out months in advance. If you move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, you are 90 minutes from the best big-bass lake in the world.
Lake Fork near Dallas is the undisputed trophy largemouth bass capital of the world — it has produced more 13+ lb bass than any other lake. The Laguna Madre on the Gulf Coast is one of the premier redfish and speckled trout fly fishing destinations anywhere.
