How the search works
Pick a measure, choose at least, at most or between, type a number, and add as many rows as you need. The search returns every county that meets all of them at once, up to 50, with the figures you filtered on shown beside each name. Twelve measures are offered: median household income, median home value and two-bedroom rent, violent crime rate, life expectancy, school test scores, hospital rating, broadband speed, average temperature, childcare cost burden, the 2024 presidential margin and the child poverty rate. A county that does not report a measure never passes a threshold on it, so adding a row can only shrink the list.
Income, rent and child poverty come from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey; home values from Zillow; crime, life expectancy and childcare burden from County Health Rankings 2024; test scores are z-scores against the national average; hospital ratings are CMS star ratings; broadband speed is Ookla's measured fixed download speed; temperature is NOAA's annual average; the political margin is the county's 2024 presidential result. Each result links to the county's page, where every figure names its source and year. To see the same thresholds on a map instead of a list, use the county map, which colors every county by how many of your ranges it meets.
